Civil and Environmental Engineering Services

We have the civil engineering staff and experience to design earthwork grading and drainage control measures; conveyance channels, piping, hydraulic structures and pumping systems; and utilities design including potable water, wastewater and storm water lines. We also expand our capabilities through collaboration with a variety of other design professionals for architectural, structural, and electrical engineering services. Our professionals also prepare final construction drawings, technical specifications, and other bid documents to take our client's project from planning to design to construction.

Our civil engineering experience is described in four general service areas:

Water and Wastewater

We provide the civil engineering services required for municipal infrastructure, including water treatment and distribution; wastewater permitting, collection and treatment; water resources engineering; solid waste management services; and storm water management services.

Our wastewater-related experience has included the design and construction oversight of main replacements to address problem areas; modeling of collection systems; design and construction oversight of main extensions to serve new developments; and the design and permitting of on-site wastewater systems, from single-family residences to large industrial facilities.

Transportation

We have completed the design of roadways ranging from highways and major urban arterials to residential subdivisions and commercial roads and parking lots. Designs have been prepared in accordance with various State and Federal standard specifications.

We have assisted with concept studies for roadways, which include cost benefit analyses for a number of proposed alignments. We have also provided traffic engineering services related to delineation, pavement markings, signing, illumination, and construction traffic control plans for projects.

We also prepare evaluations of realignment alternatives, considering materials, surveying and right-of-way data, and topography for road projects. We complete the centerline surveys and incorporate all roadside features into a site maps. Roadside features include all property boundaries, intersections, signage, culvert inlet and outlet invert elevations, natural drainage features, irrigation ditches, and all underground and overhead utilities. Plan and profile sheets are created for the entire length of the roadway, and hydrological calculations based on rainfall data, drainage basin characteristics, and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data are performed for all drainages to properly size and design drainage crossings.

Surveying and Mapping

Pioneer Technical Services's team of surveyors, including a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor, have conducted various types of surveys for Federal, State and County agencies and private clients. Pioneer Technical Services, Inc. has extensive experience which includes site surveying and topographic mapping of mine properties; boundary surveying for claims, homesteads, and lots; surveying major and minor subdivision properties; construction surveying and staking; architectural and investigative surveying; and route surveying for utilities easements.

GPS (Global Positioning System) technology gives Pioneer Technical Services, Inc. the ability to generate detailed mapping of project sites for our clients. This information is often invaluable as part of project planning and design; it is also as a unique tool for accurately identifying locations of key site information. Pioneer Technical Services, Inc. has state-of-the-art equipment and the skill necessary to fully utilize this powerful tool.

Since 1999, we have designed and provided oversight for the replacement of approximately 130,000 lineal feet of water mains in Butte , Montana . Within the last few years, our water utility projects in Butte have included replacements and extensions on Missoula Gulch, the West Side Subdivision, the Timber Butte Youth Park , Hannibal Street , the Jeremy Bullock Memorial Soccer Field, and others.

We designed a pedestrian path along Continental Drive in Butte , which included significant improvements to storm water drainage and repair of existing drainage structures. The revised surface drainage, combined with the installation of the new 24-inch drainage line with a capacity of approximately 25 cubic feet per second, substantially improves roadway drainage in this area.
